Interning

I'm interning at The Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority. My department, among other things, designs and brands everything for two parts of Sydney: The Rocks and Darling Harbour. The Rocks is one of Sydney's most historic parts. It's very rustic and quaint with the cutest little shops, cafes, restaurants, and markets. It's filled with cobblestone walkways and beautiful old brick. Darling Harbour is known for its nightlife. It has the coolest restaurants and pubs. It also has the aquarium, the maritime museum, monorail, a mall, and the imax theater!

This is The Rocks. Great view of the bridge and the Opera House. I actually work down here. My building is behind those ones to the left! I go out by the harbour and eat my lunch everyday I'm at work.

Advertisement for Markets by Moonlight. They also do all of their own photography. I have learned a lot so far about how they set their shoots up and what type of lighting they use and stuff like that. They actually set one up in the office the other day and I got to stand in front of the camera and test the shots out before the lady came in that they had to photograph.

Right now, they are in the LONG process of re-branding The Rocks. Friday, i looked through their whole presentation and vision for what they want that to look like. The rest of the day he had me researching and working out type that may go with that new look.

Aroma Festival. One of the events in the rocks. It's all about coffee and Tea. These banners are one of the many things my department would design for something like this.

-This is actually the design team that I work with. One of the men at work was telling me how they set this up and made it happen. They also have a Marilyn Monroe version.

The Rocks Markets. Best food and cutest vendors!

Christmas Tree of Chairs. The design department makes one out of something different every Christmas! This was last year's.

Darling Harbour! So cool at night!

Two advertisements for Darling Harbour. These arent the banners, theyre just screen shots from the website, but this is somewhat what they look like. The first day of work they had me coming up with concepts for a male character for these advertisements.

Poster for the Darling Harbour Fiesta. We actually went to this last week! We danced to some sweet remixed latin music!

Fiesta, fiesta.

Hillsong's been blowin' my mind...

Hillsong has been the biggest blessing while living here in Sydney. Through Hillsong, God's given us great friends, a community of believers, and an amazing place to worship and learn some really awesome stuff from pretty incredible people. I love it! I feel really lucky to be able to spend 3 months of my life learning and growing there.
Robert Ferguson has taught twice so far while we have been here. Once on Sunday night and once at Powerhouse, which is the college night on Wednesdays. He is one of the best teachers/one of the smartest men I've ever heard speak from the pulpit. The first night we were here he spoke about how if we believe in the sovereignty of God, that there are no coincidences in life...only "God-incidences." It was a cool thing to hear right when we got here. It was reassuring to know that we are definitely here (in Australia) for a reason  and not just by chance. Robert had some of the CRAZIEST stories, which a lot of people would call "coincidences" but were really just ridiculously mapped out my Jesus!! It made me crave such incidences in my own life.
On Wednesday night he compared the Israelites journey to the promised land to our spiritual lives.  He made the comparisons by saying the blood has to be applied, the sea has to be crossed, faith has to be tested, and then you have to enter the land and enforce your victory. Of course, they all were followed by explanations, but it was one of the coolest comparisons I've ever heard. He left us with a few questions: Is your land settled? Is it spacious? Is it secure? Successful? Sustainable?

biscuits and carbonated lemonade

Sooooo today marks one week since we have been in Aussie land and we have already become obsessed with certain foods that we wont be able to eat once we get back to the states. Some of these include....

TIM TAMS!!! they're cookies (biscuits) that are basically heaven in a chocolate square and I crave them on a regular basis. The only bad thing about them is that there's only 9 in each pack! I'm going to stuff as many packs as I can in my suitcase on the way home. And yes...we HAVE tried all of the variations on the picture above.

Solo lemon drink. Its basically carbonated lemonade. You can get 1 liter at Coles for a dollar...pretty much the cheapest thing in all of Australia. SOOO good! perfect with Tim Tams. Also, Cheese's company designed the logo for it!

Caroline came back to the flat with these crackers....and of course we fell in love. Chicken flavor is the best! We pack them in our lunches for school/work. Again, the only prob is that the box is TINY, just like everything else here. Portion sizes really are SO much smaller than ones in America. I didnt think it would be, but it is quite frustrating.

Uncle Tobys Yoghurt Tops are the best granola bars I've ever had! I eat one for breakfast every morning! love em

Typical Tourists

Just a few pics of the tour we went on the first full day we were here. As of now, we still feel like tourists because we're taking pictures of everything. I feel like everywhere we go we have "AMERICAN" stamped on our forehead. We don't even notice how much we stick out most of the time. I guess the longer we're here, the more we'll blend in. :)

First time seeing the Opera House! I feel like I've taken so many pictures of it because everytime I see it, i feel like i should...even though I'll prob being seeing it almost everyday! It still doesnt seem real.

Us being...us. This is a place called "the gap." It's a beautiful view above huge cliffs looking over the ocean. buuuut we were also told that its the place with the highest suicides because it's just a straight drop down.

Roomies in front of the Opera House and the Sydney Harbor Bridge!!

Just a small glimpse of Bondi Beach.

After a 20 hour plane ride...

well....we're here!!! tired, but running on adrenaline and excitement. We found an internet cafe close by and look like typical American tourists taking pictures of stupid things and prob being way too loud. In ten minutes we'll take our first tour of the area we are living in and then hopefully we will be able to go to our apartments and SHOWER and BRUSH OUR TEETH...both which are way overdue at this point. Ready for some exploring!

Bitter Sweet

Wells, On Tuesday at approx 4:30 pm Cheese, Chri, and I will begin the grandest adventure of our lives thus far. We're Australia bound...Sydney to be exact! While this is one of the most exciting times of my life, it's also one of the scariest. It will be hard not being in the comfortable presence of my loving friends and family. While they will all be truly missed, I know that this experience is one that is necessary and one that I will never forget. God has big plans and I cannot wait to see them come to life over the next 3 months!
